This lovely circular hike starts and ends at the charming village of Thalkirchdorf in Allgäu, Germany. This area has apparently been occupied since 250BC!

We first walked through the village turned left, headed east and then turned right up. The path leads quite steeply up to to the Kuhschwandalpe and then flattens out.

We passed numerous old farmhouses, many of which serve food and drink.

They’re wonderful places to stop for a rest and enjoy the views over to Salmaserhöhe and and the ridge we hiked 2 weeks ago.

We had been enjoying the spring flowers all the way so far and then suddenly after passing the Leutenschwandalpe we came to literally a field of crocus! Wow…

At the Bärenfalalpe we turned right and headed steeply uphill again – the second and last climb of the hike. There is a chair lift up to Bärenfalalpe, so you could start the hike here…

Although the hike only goes up to 1480m and it was late April we were hoping most of the snow had disappeared. Wrong!

Along the ridge through the trees to Himmeleck we were walking on top of a couple of meters of snow! As we headed towards Klammen and out of the woods, the ridiculous amount of snow reduced and we were back into the green, alpine meadows.

We passed by Denneberg and shortly after turned right to head back down into the valley. It’s a 1.5 hour walk back down through enchanting forests to Thalkirchdorf. Another wonderful hike – thanks Allgäu!

Berghütte Bärenfalle

Berghütte Bärenfalle

(Food only)

This idyllic mountain hut is at 1100m, above the Alpsees in the middle of the Nature Park of the Nagelfluhkette and surrounded by attractions. The old wooden and natural rock structures give the Bärenfalle a traditional flair. Wonderful food is served on both the large terrace and the beautiful indoors. We look forward to your visit.
