Our Top 10 Winter Hikes

This hike along the Walensee can be done all year round and it passes lovely meadows, cute little wooden houses, chapels and village shops. On a cold, bright winter's day we decided to explore the peninsula south of Lugano in southern Switzerland. A fantastic hike starting in a classical Tessin lakeside village, easy hiking through woods to a 360° over Lake Lugano. Perfect for a winter's day!

There are stunning hikes and then there are STUNNING hikes. This one is the latter. It starts in Tamins and leads along the northern edge of the Swiss Grand Canyon to Ilanz, offering fantastic views along the way.

This walk offers a relaxed stroll to see the old Rhine flowing into lake Constance, cross into the Rhine delta nature reserve and pass strawberries fields and an apple farm. And of course in the summer, it is well worth taking a break at the beach.

An easy path up to Monte Generoso and impressive views from the top make this hike absolutely stunning. As an added bonus it winds its way down through beautiful Italian style villages. And even though it goes up all the way to 1700m, it can be done in any season.

If you fancy a short, easy stroll in a nature reserve alongside the Bodensee then this is perfect! Remember to take your binoculars to spot the local birdlife - it's a real haven for wildlife...

With truly awful weather on Easter Sunday in the north of Switzerland we jumped in the car and headed south to the blue skies, warm air and spring-time feel of Tessin, southern Switzerland. The easy, looping hike around the beautiful Val Capriasca has stunning views in all directions - well worth the drive!

This stunning hike starts from Rebstein in the Rhine valley and ends in the town of St Gallen. It passes through beautiful and less well known areas of Appenzellerland. It is a perfect long day hike at almost any time of year - even in winter!
