The area where this hike starts is Plätzwiese- quite a busy area – but understandably so. It is beautiful! Nevertheless, once you leave the main path you will be quite alone!

You can either walk up from the lower car park at Ponticello, or drive up, or take the bus up to Plätzwiese. If you want to take your car up, be aware the road is closed to traffic driving up from 10:00.

However you get to Plätzwiese, walk along the main path towards the Dürrensteinhütte.

It really is beautiful, so take your time and enjoy the views!

The meadows and stream to the right are extremely pretty!

Just before you reach the little bridge crossing a stream BEFORE reaching the Dürrensteinhütte turn right and cross the meadow. The path is not signposted, but you’ll see a faint track in the grass.

Head up the hill, finding paths as best you can and after 45 minutes or so, you’ll be at the top!

If you fancy it, you can also walk across to Rautikopf – around 50 minutes there and back. You don’t need to walk back on exactly the same path – you can head more directly back to the car-park at Plätzwiese. Again, the path is not signposted but you’ll find traces of tracks.

Once back at the car park, if you used the bus, you could always wander back down to Ponticello. It’s a lovely stroll and of course downhill!
