Pragser Wildsee – Maurer Kopf (2567m) – Hochalpenkopf (2542m) – Pragser Wildsee
Turquoise lakes, green meadows and white Dolomiten peaks
An amazing hike which starts at the picture-book Pragser Wildsee lake, then passes through a quiet larch wood valley, visits 2 peaks with 360° views and finally back to the lake. Simply beautiful!
This is a circular hike starting from Pragser Wildsee in South Tyrol (the Dolomites, Italy).

We parked (at the very expensive – 12 Euro per day) car park at the amazingly beautiful Pragser Wildsee. Try to arrive here early – there are less people and it really is stunning.
We walked to the right side of the lake until we reached path 19 leading off to the right. This is a glorious wooded valley – aptly named Grunwaldtal, the green wood valley.
At the Alter Kaser hut, which is also serves food and drink we stayed right and on path 19…
and headed towards the Hochalmhütten. Also here you get simple food and drink. 45 minutes after the huts we reached the Hochalmsee. Beautiful.
After the lake we headed east on path 6 towards Flatschkofelsharte. After the Scharte we headed up towards Maurerkopf. There is no marked path – simply find the easiest way you can – it’s not difficult. And the reward was to see more Edelweiss than we have ever seen before!
After enjoying 360° panoramic views from Maurerkopf….
we headed down and then up to Hochalpenkopf for similar, but equally great views. After lunch here, we descended to Pragser Furkel…
… and then had a lovely stroll down through the larch forest back to Pragser Wildsee.
Which was now much busier!
