Perfect afternoon stroll to the Leuenfall waterfall
If you need a hike of only a couple of hours, then this one might be perfect for you. It's a wonderful little stroll with stunning views of the Alpstein and visits the beautiful Leuenfall waterfall.
This is a circular hike starting from Wedhapfen, Schwende District in Appenzellerland (north-east Switzerland).

This is a beautiful little afternoon stroll with stunning views of Alpstein. It passes a couple places where you can eat. Most importantly though, it leads right up to the impressive Leuenfall waterfall.
Start near Wedhapfen in Appenzellerland, where the Sonnenhalbstrasse splits into two roads. There is a small place for parking just before the roads folk off. Make your way along Gächtenstrasse to Wedhapfen.
After a few bends the path turns off the road and now follows the track along the side of the slope. Sometimes it passes through woods but most of the time there are lovely views of Alpstein along the way.
Keep following the path all the way along the slope until it does a long bend to the left. Here are signs already to the Leuenfall, pointing downhill. However, instead, turn right and follow the signs to the Ahornkapelle. You will soon arrive at the Berggasthaus Ahorn, a hut for food and drinks. Just next to it is a cute little chappel.
Now the path turns left and soon onto a small road, where you turn left again. Follow it towards the Leuenfall. After crossing the Weissbach stream, the path soon turns right and you can already see the Leuenfall ahead. Now it’s just a few meters through the trees until you stand directly at the waterfall.
Once you have had your break at the Leuenfall, trace your steps back to the road and follow it to the right. It now leads all the way along the valley, passing Waldgasthof Lehmen, where you can eat and stay the night.
Continue all the way along the road until Wart, where there is a small watering place under a tree on your left and a farmhouse. Just after the farmhouse the path turns left.
Now the path leads down to the Weissbachtobel, across a bridge and back up on the other side.
The path will soon meet a small road again, which you follow to the right. Soon you are back at the start of the hike.
