Weissbad – Klosterspitz (1325m) – Webern – Weissbad

While there is still a lot of snow further up the mountains, Klosterspitz already offers a great hiking experience with stunning views of Alpstein. The walk fits into half a day and while it has some steep sections, overall it is a lovely and relaxing hike.

Start from Weissbad and make your way up to Rechböhl. From here you’ll already have some lovely views of the surrounding mountains. From Rechböhl the path starts becoming steeper but at the same time the views of Alpstein are becoming more and more impressive. Make sure to stop and look around from time to time.

Soon you will reach a wooden area and there is some more uphill until you reach a few huts. More than half of the height meters are done now, so this is a great place to stop and look around. There is a tap with water to fill up your bottle if needed

Keep walking upwards and the path now leads along a ridge through a wooden area. In the summer this is probably pleasantly cool. In the winter you can catch glimpses of Appenzellerland through the trees.

Finally you will reach the top of Klosterspitz. There is a border stone which marks the border between Appenzell and Schwende and further along a cross to mark the top. There is also a bench which invites for a break to enjoy the stunning view from the top.

Once you have thoroughly enjoyed the view, continue along the ridge for just a few minutes until you reach Neuenalp.

Here turn right to make your way back down. The path leads along the slope until it reaches a little alpine road. Continue along the road for a few minutes until the path turns right directly underneath an old skilift. Now head down towards Weberen.

Now the path turns east towards Weissbad and leads along the slope below Klosterspitz.

Pass through some more wooden area until you reach Ochsenegg. Here turn off left onto a steeper path until you reach a quiet road which leads towards Weissbad. Now the hike becomes and easy stroll with fanastic views of Alpstein.

Enjoy the views and soon you will be back in Weissbad. If you still have some time on the drive back home, make sure to stop in Appenzell for a look around and maybe some ice cream.
