Simple, short and wonderful hike above Liechtenstein
A lovely simple, short hike from the ski area of Liechtenstein to the peak of Schönberg - perfect for an afternoon stroll or a family hike!
This is a circular hike starting from Malbun in Liechtenstein (north-east Switzerland).

We parked just outside of Malbun, crossed the road and headed into the mountains! The clouds were coming and going so we were not sure how good the views were going to be. Nevertheless it started off fine through the area known as Flua – blue sky!
There were quickly some great views back to Malbun and numerous benches to sit and enjoy them from!
At Sassförkle, we turned left and enjoyed views deeper into Liechtenstein. The clouds were coming!
The path now wound below Stachlerkopf – some sections are secured with wires, but it’s never too difficult.
After 2 hours of hiking, we were at the top BUT – the clouds had blown across and we had limited views. You should be able to see the Rhein valley – it’s down there somewhere!
It’s possible to take a different way down from the summit which we took – and then we were back on the path to Sassförkle.
At pt1725, we turned right and took a different route back to the start.
After 3.5 hours we were back at the start – a lovely way to spend a cloudy day!
We did not find any places for food or accomodation on this hike. Take your own supplies!
