This is more of a lovely afternoon stroll than a stunning hike. The few height meters are far spread out so they almost disappear and the snowy mountains can be seen in the distance. Instead of steep slopes, there are gentle hills, half timber houses, murmuring streams and the occasional sheep or cow.
Start the hike in Sulgen, where you will already see the first half timber houses. This is a very cute village, so take your time to look around.
The hike now leads through woods and across fields and passes the occasional village. In the spring the woods are covered in anemone.
Once you passed through Guntershausen, follow the train tracks and look back occasionally, you will see a great view of the Alps in the background. Pass through Berg and then on the other side, the path slowly slopes up towards Ottenberg.
Once you have walked around Ottenberg, you will reach Stelzenhof, where you can watch the goats and cows graze. A bit further you will find a little shed which offers some farm products.
The path now leads along the ridge towards Dattenhub and offers great views of the valley below and the mountains in the distance. Don’t follow the signs directly into Weinfelden but instead follow the path into Ottoberg. This is one of the prettiest villages around and well worth a visit.
Now the path turns back towards Weinfelden and leads through the vinyards above the town. This explains where it got its name from. Along here you have the opportunity to buy some local wine or you just take a break and enjoy a glass directly with a view of the vinyards.
From here, make your way into Weinfelden from where you can catch a train with the wonderful SBB that will bring you back to the start of the hike in Sulgen.
