This hike in Toggenberg is perfect if you would like to fill a day with walking without exhausting yourself. There are no long or steep slopes, yet you will have done 800 height metres without noticing.
There are only smaller hills to walk up, yet the view of the mountains is stunning. And for the 6 or 7 hours of walking, you will never be bored.
We start in Wil and walk towards Rickenbach. The hike leads through a mixture of wood and fields, across lots of bridges, until we find a lovely little waterfall. A bit further we reach the top of a hill which invites for a break with a bench and an impressive view of the Churfürsten. After enjoying the sunshine and some chocolate, we keep walking through cute little villages, sunny alms and shady woods.
This idyllic hike offers everything one expects from a walk in Toggenberg, in the lower part of the Alps. There are cows, goats, cats, Appenzeller dogs, apple trees and stunning views. While there are no mountains to climb, the path leads from one hill-top to the next. With each hill-top a different view opens up – well worth the uphill walking.
Once the last hill of the hike is conquered, we stroll down to the lovely village of Mühlrüti. From here we take the bus and then train back to Wil.
