Fischingen – Hörnli (1138m) – Hüttchopf (1231m) – Wald
Lovely hike over 2 peaks with panoramic views
This is a walk between 2 lakes, up 2 mountain tops and through 3 cantons in north-eastern Switzerland. On a clear day you can see from Lake Constance all the way to the Bernese Alps. Well worth the effort of tackling the 1200 height meter ascent!
This hike starts from Fischingen Abbey and ends at Wald (Thurgau, north-east Switzerland).

The day starts with fog in the valleys and sunshine in the mountains. So we plan to hike up Hörnli to get our share of the beautiful weather and the great views. There is still a lot of snow on the ground but this hike can be done in any season as the paths are very well maintained.
We start from Fischingen with it’s impressive abbey from 1138.
From here it is a gentle uphill through the woods towards Au and then to Allenwinden. Here you can find a former Pilgrims hostel which dates back to the 19th century and still invites hikers to come in. This place also offers lovely views to Lake Constance in the north.
Onwards we pass a turkey farm and then slowly wind out way up towards Hörnli. On the way we pass a little hut with the so called Dreiländerstein next to it. Translated this means “three country stone” and marks the place where the cantons St. Gallen, Thurgau and Zürich meet.
It gets steeper now but this will soon be rewarded with amazing views from the top of Hörnli. On a clear day you will be able to see all the way from Lake Constance in the north to the impressive mountains of the Bernese Alps in the west.
Plan some time for a break on the top, there are plenty of benches around and the Bergrestaurant Hörnli offers a variety of refreshments.
Now we make our way down on the other side into the Tösstal. We walk along the road for a little while until we cross the river Töss. here we turn east and make our way up towards the Tannen saddle. From here we continue along the long ridge all the way up to Hüttchopf. There is no cross on the top here but an abundance of benches, so we make good use of them. We enjoy the great views and the quiet up here.
From Hüttchopf we make our way to Scheidegg where the Alpe Scheidegg invites for refreshments while enjoying the great view which on a clear day reach all the way to Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. Onwards we turn off the road and back into the woods. The path now winds down towards the Schmittenbach.
We follow the beautiful little stream along waterfalls all the way into Wald where we finish our hike at the train station.
