This gentle hike starts in the fascinating, historical town of Bischofszell in Thurgau, north-east Switzerland. It could be well worth to spend a night in the town to fully explore the backstreets and buildings within the picturesque town.
We left the town in a westerly direction crossing the Thurbrücke (bridge over the river Thur). Even the bridges in Bischofszell have an interesting history! Originally built from wood in 1300, replaced by stone in 1500 and exempt from tax until 1796. Now you know.
We then followed the charming river Thur for one kilometer before leaving the river. We then headed across farmland passing old farmhouses.
Most farmhouses seem to own with friendly dogs wanting attention, or cats enjoying the early spring sunshine or hunting mice.
We continued walking, on past the cute and quiet villages of Dietenwil, Rudenwil, Hosenruck and up to the highest point of the walk at Nollen. Views all around – what a lovely way to spend a Sunday!
We then head down, through Wuppenau and then into the village of Bussnang with its impressive viaduct – a trainspotters delight!
We continued further, finally crossing the river Thur again to enter the town of Weinfelden
Although less historical than the bridge at Bischofszell this rather elegant suspension bridge was certainly impressive the way it swung around as we crossed it.
We then headed into the town of Weinfelden to catch the train back to Bischofszell.
And of course, enjoy another opportunity to explore the town. Lovely!
