Ulisbach – Regelstein (1315m) – Tanzboden (1443m) – Ebnat-Kappel

There are quite a few steep height meters to do on this hike but the reward is two peaks and two huts with great views on the way.

Start the walk in Ulisbach which can be reached by bus from Ebnat-Kappel train station. Cross the river Thur and follow the road uphill towards Würzen on the other side. After about a kilometer, turn left towards Schönenberg. After a bend in the road, the path turns off the road to the left behind a farm house.

Now the walk leads through a meadow and soon you will reach a bench with a fantastic view. This is a great place for a break.

The path continues steeply uphill through Unterbüntberg and Oberbüntberg and through open meadows. There are always great views on the way to distract from the efforts of this uphill section.

Above Oberbüntberg you will reach a road which you follow only for a few meters and then turn left. The path now flattens off and leads through some wet- and woodland.

You will reach a small wooden hut where the path turns right again. It gets steeper again but you can already see the top of Regelstein not far above.

The top of Regelstein is more a high plateau than a peak but the views are stunning. This is another good place for a break to give yourself a chance to take it all in.

Leaving Regelstein, step through the stone wall and turn left along it. The path now leads gently downhill.

Now the path leads through woods and meadows on a fairly even height. Continue to follow it until you reach the Oberbächen restaurant. This little hut is positioned beautifully for a view of the surrounding mountains and you may consider stopping for another break.

Follow the path past the restaurant towards Tanzboden. It leads through the woods for a little while. When the path emerges on the other side, it gets slightly steeper again towards Tanzboden.

At the top of Tanzboden you will find another hut with a restaurant and the cross at the peak just a few meters above

Once you are ready to continue, start the downhill towards Ebnat-Kappel, following the signs. The path first leads along a gravel road until a cross roads by a farm house. Here the signs show two ways towards Ebnat-Kappel. Choose the one on the right.

The path now continues downhill across meadows and again allows enjoyable views of the valley below and the mountains above.

Once you reach Ebnat-Kappel, make your way towards the train station to end this walk.
