Get out and enjoy springtime flowers!

Spring of course is a glorious season for hiking – it’s always wonderful to hear the birds twittering and the spring flowers appearing!

There is often too much snow to go very high but it does not matter. The alpine meadows lower down will be beautifully green with colourful flowers. We would recommend to visit north-east Switzerland, Allgau in southern Germany, western Austria or especially, the Italian part of southern Switzerland.

Do be careful crossing any remaining patches of snow! It’s often wise to carry a pair of chains or studs for your hiking boots…

Rheinau – Rheinfälle – Altenburg – Rheinau

This is a lovely hike starting from the tranquil village of Rheinau with it's famous monastery. It passes along the river Rhine to the tourist hot-spot of the Rheinfälle waterfalls. Although busy, it is worth a visit before heading back to Rheinau along a different and very beautiful section of the Rhine.

Alberschwende – Maltach – Brüggelekopf (1182) – Tannen – Alberschwende

A perfect, easy half day hike to Brüggelekopf above Alberschwende. Throughout the hike there are views in all directions - to the Swiss Rhine valley, to the Bodensee, into Bregenzerwald and across to the Allgäu alps. No excuse not to go and do this wonderful stroll!

Flums – St Peter – Chapfensee – Mels

This wonderful hike is a lovely stroll through a mix of alpine meadows, shadowy woodland and passes numerous small waterfalls. It then leads around the unbelievably pretty Chapfensee lake, visits a tiny hamlet before finally heading back down into the valley. Something for everyone!
