A hike with views to the lowest and highest points of Switzerland
A lovely hike along a broad ridge to Monte Lema. There are beautiful views in all directions - to the 4000m peaks of Switzerland, Swiss and Italian lakes and even across to the French alps. Stunning.
This hike starts from Arosio and ends at Miglieglia (Tessin, south Switzerland).

With gloomy, grey weather in the north of the alps, we decided to travel to the south and enjoy blue skies and sunshine – and enjoy a beautiful hike.
We started in the village of Arosio – there are actually a string of beautiful villages in this area. We then headed toward Monte Ferraro and the views started to open up.
After a passing a couple of alp farmhouses shut down for the winter and started to climb up to Passo d’Agario.
Once we reached the pass and the ridge, then wow! Views in all directions, including the lowest point of Switzerland (Lago Maggiore – 193m) and the highest (Dufourspitze – 4634m).
And to the south, were equally great views into southern Switzerland and beyond.
We then strolled along the broad ridge all the way to Monte Lema with constant views – wonderful!
At Monte Lema, you can take the gondola down to Miglieglia or wander down. For us in winter, the gondola was closed so it was a stroll down to the village – for a well deserved hot chocolate!
