This hike starts in the pretty vineyard surrounded village of Maienfeld – and it’s well worth to wander around the village before heading off towards Heidi village.
It was a very pleasant stroll through the vineyards and lanes to the villages of Unterrofles and Oberrofels…
… and then further to the Heidi village. A perfect place to visit if you are hiking with children! After Heidi village we continued to St Luzisteig and then headed towards Vorder Ochsenberg. After coming out of the woods, there are some wonderful views across the Rhine valley.
We wanted to make a loop of the way up to Regitzer Spitz so we hiked from Vorder Ochsenberg to Hinter Ochsenberg. It is worth to take this route – there are equally great views over the Rhine valley in the opposite direction.
And then we were soon on the top of Regitzer Spitz with it’s wonderful panoramic views up and down the Rhine valley.
After a bite to eat and enjoying the views we headed down towards the very pretty village of Fläsch.
Similar to Maienfeld, this is a wine making village so if you fancy to buy a bottle of the local wine, this is the place! It was then another lovely stroll through the vineyards…
… back to the starting point in Maienfeld. A wonderful hike!

Fantastic autumn hike. This is the proof that for a stunning hike you don’t need to go far up. The villages Maienfeld and Fläsch seem to be cut from South Tyrol wine route and placed to the Rhine valley. Wandering through the woods and fields around feels like being at the edge to the Mediterranean.
We actually did not do the full hike. We have cut the hike at “Vorderer Ochsenberg”, which reduces the overall hiking time to 4 hours.
Thanks Al and Elke to bring this one onto our radar.
Hey Marc!
Thanks for the comments and really glad you liked the hike! It is a beautiful area… Another lovely hike of medium length is to Lutispitze (in Toggenberg) – https://stunninghikes.com/north-east-switzerland/st-gallen/laui-lutispitze-1986m-chueboden-laui/
A little shorter but amazing views!
