Hiked by us on: 24th October 2017

Engadin is stunning at any time of the year but we think it is at it´s best for a couple of weeks in autumn, when the larch trees are orange and everything glows. We go back there almost every year in October to see it and we were not let down this time.

While there are lots of places to hike in Engadin, we chose the national park for our hike this time. We had a wonderfully blue sky and the first snow on the mountains – it does not get much better than that.

From Zernez we walk up to Vallun Padratscha. The path leads mainly through the woods but once we are above 2000m, the view into the stunning Cluozza valley opens. This picture of blue skies and snow covered mountains is amazing.

From Vallun Padratscha we descend to the Cluozza river.

After crossing the river there is a short 15 minute uphill section leading to the Chammana Cluozza hut. A lovely place to for a rest and something to eat and drink.

From here it´s uphill to the Murter saddle which gives stunning views into both valleys. It’s also a great place for a break. If you are lucky (and quiet) hiker you may get to see some chamois up here.

On the other side we descend to Vallun Chafuol from where we take the post bus back to Zernez.

Please wait a moment while we get the maps!
