This is a hike with everything! We started in the small Vorarlberg village of Hittisau in western Austria. After leaving the village, we cross the river, pass the outdoor pool and head uphill towards Gschwendalpe.

It’s quite steep going, but through the trees so we were well sheltered from the unusually hot May sunshine. After around 2 hours we passed the Hochhaederichalpe.

It was then only another 10 minutes to the first peak of Hochhaederich with fantastic 360° views of the beautiful surrounding alps.

It was then around an hour to the second peak of Falken. Around 30 minutes of it is along a narrow ridge. It was never so scary, and there are fixed wires to help, but care is needed.

After a bite to eat, we headed back on down towards the valley, passing the Leckachalpe.

Once we were in the woods, it was a beautiful walk alongside streams and babbling brooks.

Make sure you walk along the gorge of the river back to Hittisau – it’s called the Engenlochschlucht. It makes the hike only a little longer, but it is beautiful.

We were then back in Hittisau – a great hike – 2 peaks, views of the alps and a gorge – what more could you want!
