Sibgratsfäll – Rohrmoos – Besler (1679m) – Rohrmoos – Sibgratsfäll
Biking and hiking on the Austria / German border
We wanted to hike up Besler - a lovely peak close to the Riedbergpass in Allgäu. To avoid the noise of the busy pass road we decided to start in Austria, cycle to Rohrmoos and hike up from the south side - a real international hike!
This is a circular hike starting from Berggasthaus Rohrmoos, Rohrmoos in Allgäu (southern Germany).

We wanted to hike up Besler which is a lovely peak close to the Riedbergpass in Allgäu, Germany. To avoid the noise of the busy pass road, we decide to hike up from the south side, which is in Austria, thus making this an international hike!
For fun, we decide to start the hike on bikes at Sibgratsfäll and cycle to the Alpine farm at Rohrmoos in Germany. This turned out to be a great idea as we enjoy views of waterfalls, beautiful alpine meadows and Hoher Ifen on the way.
After 45 minutes of cycling we arrive at Rohrmoos. The first documents mentioning this small settlement date back to 1361. From about 1500 onwards Count Johann von Sonnenberg was the owner of the hamlet. Today there is a mountain guesthouse in Rohrmoos which makes up one of four farms in the small hamlet. For anyone wanting to spend more than one day here – this makes it possible to stay over night.
We leave the bikes and make the gentle hike up to Besler – it takes around 2.5 hours. A variety of ways of all difficulties lead to the summit. We chose the easterly direction since we feel quite motivated. It involves using a fixed wire on a relatively steep 20m section to reach the summit. However, there are also much easier ways from the west and south.
Regardless of the way you choose to get to the top, your efforts will be rewarded with a stunning a view!
After having lunch and enjoying the surroundings, we headed down again through the peaceful alpine meadows. Wonderful!
We retrieved the bikes and enjoyed the downhill ride back to the car.
A great day out!
