This is a wonderful hike between Mont Elmo and Hornischegg using a gondola to start the hike and a second gondola to return to the valley. It is based on a longer hike we made, but it is such a beautiful area, we decided to write about a shorter hike which anyone can do.
Take the Monte Elmo gondola to the Helm restaurant. This is a great place if you have children with you – plenty of slides and attractions for them.
Once you leave the gondola station head towards the Hahnspielhütte. At the hut turn left and start the climb towards Helm.
There is an old abandoned world war 1 building on Mount Helm.
Then simply continue strolling along the broad ridge and enjoy views to the left over the Austrian alps…
and to the right to the Dolomites.
After passing the Silianerhütte you will reach the second peak on this hike, Hornischegg.
From here head downhill to the Cable Car Tre Cime. This will take you back down to the village of Moos. You can either take a bus back to the Monte Elmo gondola or stroll between the towns.
