We parked the car at the Lukmanierpass and quickly leave the lake (Lai da Sontga Maria) at the pass behind and cross a bridge spanning one of the many streams feeding the lake.

We then head east along the slowly climbing Val Cadlimo passing by a rather wonderful mini-dam!

After 2-3 hours we arrived at the Capanna Cadlimo hut and have a well-earned break. We left the hut behind and headed in a more southerly direction. It is now gentle stroll to pass the beautiful Lago Scuro. Even though it is almost mid-July there is still plenty of snow around.

Lago Scuro

The lake is almost the same height as the pass of the same name – Bassa del Lago Scuro. The views now really open up – fantastic views south towards Tessin and northern Italy.

Even at the lower lake – Lago di Tom – there is the previous winter’s snow extending submarine like into the water.

We continued down and quickly arrived at the next lake – here it is simply too tempting not to test the water (still too cold for a swim!).

Paddling in the Alpine lake

There are now two more huts close by to refuel – the Cadagno di Fuori and the Capanna Cadagno with a few other typically Tessin dwellings.

We turned east and again were slowly climbing to the Passo dell Uomo, passing a wonderful waterfall.

Very tired now we walked over the very flat pass and made our way back to the starting point. A long day but wow – totally worth it. A fantastic hike!

The Cadlimo Hut has been under constant maintenance since 18 June 2018. Due to the warm temperatures of the old snow has largely melted. Where there is still snow, the trails are well trampled or prepared by us. All entrances and descents are easy to walk on. The ridge path is also often done.
