On a beautiful blue-sky autumnal day we decided to explore the very pretty valleys south-east of Davos. This hike crosses from the Dischma valley into the beautiful, beautiful Sertig valley ending at the charming, tiny Graubünden village of Sertig.

This is a circular hike starting from Davos in Graubünden (south-east Switzerland).

Hiked by us on: 1st October 2017

With autumn disappearing quickly this seemed to be one of our last opportunities to make a hike higher in the mountains. We decided to follow the Walserweg starting from Davos and head towards the pretty little village of Sertig.

Davos may be the highest “town” in Europe but is actually not particularly pretty in itself. Luckily the surrounding villages more than make up for it (our opinions!)

The hike quickly leaves Davos and enters the Dischma valley (apparently the name is derived from the decimus (“Tenth”) – don’t know why). The valley is simply beautiful. Small babbling stream to the left and glorious views stretching into the distance. Further along we can see Piz Grialetsch (3130m) in the distance and already the snow was making its way down the mountainside.

Shortly after passing the little settlement of Teufi, we turned right and start to climb. Not too steep at all and its nice to be gaining height – the views are getting only better!

After an hour and a half of climbing, we reach the saddle of Tällifurga. Great place for a quick drink and chunk of Swiss chocolate!

Heading down on the opposite sides we now have fantastic views into the next valley of Sertig – the same name as our destination – the village of Sertig.

View towards Sertig

Sertig itself is small – and cute.  In the 13th century, the German-speaking Walsers settled in the mountainous areas in Davos and Klosters. The harsh conditions at this altitude made life a battle for survival and forced people to help each other.

In 1699, they built their own church, a simple white mountain church with a steeple. and is apparently very popular for weddings, christenings and harvest festivals.

We decided to properly end the hike with something to eat and drink at the village restaurant. The brilliantly reliable Swiss post bus runs at least once an hour and will whisk you back to Davos.

Walking back from Sertig village to Davos

Since it was such a beautiful day we decided to wander along the valley back to Davos. There is barely any traffic on the road to spoil the views or peace and quiet. What a wonderful day!

Please wait a moment while we get the maps!
