A glorious hike with views in all directions - the Rhine valley, the Rätikon and the Alps to the south and west - Sassauna is an amazing view-point!

This is a circular hike starting from Seilbahn Fanas, Fanas in Graubünden (south-east Switzerland).

This hike starts at the top of the Fanas gondola. It’s just a few steps to the Berggasthaus Sassauna – you can have a drink here before the hike, after or both!

We did this hike in a clockwise direction – this gives the better views – so we headed off to the left. In this direction the first great views  are across the Rhine valley…

… and then we headed up the broad ridge towards Sassauna.

The path is a little steep and does drop off to the left – but it is never too difficult. After an hour and a half we were close to the summit…

… and then shortly later on the top with incredible 360° views – and a bench from which to enjoy them! In the image below, Sulzfluh is the white peak to the right…

On the way down we enjoyed more views across the Rätikon and to the south – this hike has simply amazing views.

It’s then an easy stroll back across the mountain to the restaurant and gondola station.
