This wonderful hike starts from the train station at Versam Safien – by the Anterior Rhine (Vorderrhein) in the Swiss grand canyon (Ruinalta). The Swiss grand canyon is the result of the biggest landslide in the history of the Alps. It all happened about 10000 years ago, hence it is well worth a visit in its own right.
We head uphill, catching some great views of the grand canyon. They almost make us forget the strain of uphill walking. If you enjoy these views, we suggest to also try this walk from Tamins.
After 45 minutes we arrive at the charming village of Versam. Here we can enjoy the stunning views over lush meadows to the mountains east of the Flims ski area.
From Versam we continue onward and upwards crossing meadows, passing farms and wandering through woods. Beautiful. On the way up the views just continue to get better and better. Finally we reach the high point at the Tenna Chruez.
From Tenna Chruez it is a lovely stroll down to the village of Tenna, leading across spring-flower filled alpine meadows.
Tenna is not only a cute little village but also has the claim to own the world’s first solar powered drag-lift. Honest!
In Tenna we enjoy an ice cream while waiting for the bus. Afterwards it is a 45 minute Swiss postbus ride back to the start. A fantastic days hike!
