This delightful hike leads through beautiful meadows, offers views of impressive alpine peaks and passes cosy huts. The scenery varies throughout the hike, so there is always something new to marvel at and then there is the beautiful, blue Lago Gran de Fosses , inviting for a break.

The hike starts at the Malga Ra Stua hut. There is a road leading to the hut and plenty of parking. However, the road is closed in July and August, so chose your hiking date accordingly. From the hut, follow the gravel road, which leads through meadows and woods. After a while you will pass a bridge on the left and shortly after, a sign directs you off to the right.

Now the path starts leading uphill and the wall in front of you may seem almost invincible. But while the uphill may get you properly out of breath, the path does not get difficult. And with the ever improving views you can take breaks and catch your breath on the way up.

After a while you will reach the top of the steep section and the path flattens off slightly. Then it’s only one more short steep section and you will reach a cross on a high point. From here it is almost level until you look down onto a grassy plateau with a cute little hut and a beautiful mountain lake.

In autumn the little hut next to the lake is closed, so you may have the table and bench all to yourself. However, the stunning center point of this plateau is the lake. In the summer it may even invite to dip a toe into the water.

The hike now leads past the lake, following the signs to Seekofel hut. There are a few more height meters to conquer but not long after leaving the lake, you will reach the hut. It sits just below the Seekofel, an impressive Dolomiten peak.

From the hut, follow the gravel road slightly downhill, until two small mountain paths lead off to the right. Follow the left of the two paths, the 6a, which leads gently up and down across a plateau. You will now step into South Tyrol. Can you smell the Kaiserschmarren?

At the end of the plateau, there is a short steep downhill and then you are back on the gravel road. Follow it left for a few meters, until you reach the Sennes hut, another great place for a break. At the hut you will find a junction again. Take the road on the right and follow it past some smaller wooden huts. Soon you will reach a table and bench at a truly stunning view point. Take a break and enjoy the panorama.

From the view point turn right and follow the narrow path until it reaches the road again. Cross the road and follow the smaller path again. It will again end at a gravel road. Follow the road to the left and very soon you will reach a cute selection of wooden huts at the Refugio Fodara Vedla.

Follow the path past the Refugio and now the it starts leading downhill. At first it is a small mountain path but soon it turns into a gravel road, which leads gently downhill. Only the last 200 height meters will be a bit steeper, until you are back at the bridge, which you passed on the way up. Follow the gravel road to the right and soon you are back at the Malga Ra Stua .
