Well known for skiing – less well known for hiking. All the better to discover beautifully quiet mountain strolls!
Vorarlberg is a state in western Austria that is almost entirely made up of mountains. It shares a border with Liechtenstein, Switzerland and Germany, part of this border is down the centre of the very pretty Lake Constance. The capital of the state is Bregenz, a town that is often also seen as the cultural capital of the area. In winter the famous skiing areas around St. Anton and Lech are well visited and in the summer, the peak of Pfänder offers stunning views across Lake Constance.
Most importantly though there are hikes for all fitness levels to be found in Vorarlberg. From a short stroll along a lake to a long hike up the mountains, there is something for everyone. And the famously cosy Austrian mountain huts invite for numerous refreshment stops on the way.
